I did! Why don't you?
I applied online to be a volunteer at the event next February. This meant filling out information on the Japanese website (using Google translate a lot!) and I had to say when I am available and what kind of volunteer work I am interested in doing.
My application was for daytime work. Anywhere in the Sapporo city area. And my choices were for information desks or event venue support.
I can't work as a volunteer in the evenings because I am busy with my mother-in-law care, and I have two cats. Maybe I will take a week off work to volunteer?
A few years ago I volunteered to help at the Nordic Ski World Championships, but after a few months in the volunteer training system I dropped out because ALL the written information was in Japanese and I couldn't read it. They gave volunteers information about everything and I didn't know what was important information for me, and what wasn't.
This time I hope to stay. My Japanese is a little better and there are more translation devices with smartphone apps etc.
Let's volunteer together next year and welcome Asian athletes to Hokkaido!
