Do you know the name of these fish?
I'll give you a hint: Mukawa...
These are Shishamo, or Smelt (the name translates as Willow Leaf Fish).
Yesterday I went to Mukawa for a job and many of these fish were hanging outside shops and homes to dry in the air. They are only caught in October and November, so usually they are dried and we can enjoy them grilled or in soup.
But yesterday I was on the hunt for very special sushi...for an NHK World Tv program....and I had to eat sushi for lunch...for work....it was a hard job.
Details of the Tv program next month :-)
