It is kayak time again!
No, really. I went kayaking last week.
On Sunday the temperature was just above 10 C, so I drove to Lake Shikotsu and enjoyed an hour or two on the lake and the small creek which is the entrance to the Chitose River.
It was windy on the lake. The waves were a little high and it was cold. So I only stayed on open water for a short time - waved at the Chinese tourists on the bridge and then went to the calmer waters in the creek.
I wore warm clothes and even ski gloves. But out of the wind in the middle of the day it was warm.
On my way home I stopped for a late lunch at the Bird Watching Cafe at Rankoshi, Route 16 near Chitose. There is a photo gallery for work by nature photographer Tadashi Shimada and I LOVED the lunch set cooked up by Shimada-san's Australian son-in-law Aaron! I met Aaron at Christmas thru mutual friends and decided to go and visit his cafe and enjoy the food and the bird watching thru the windows.
Here are more details about the cafe - if you are driving in that area I really recommend it.
