This week I was reminded of that - and amazed.
I sent a Honshu friend's birthday present from a small post office in Hiragishi. Inside was cake and hand cream. On the Contents Description label I wrote: "Cake" and "Cosmetic".
Friday evening I got a letter....from the post office (see above).
It is a handwritten letter from the staff, apologizing for making a mistake! "Cosmetic" can't be sent by airplane, so the delivery will take two or three days.
Amazing. Really. No post office in England would ever do this. Send an apology note to a customer :-) They would just send it through the slower system.
Japanese service is incredible.
Last month staff at the same post office spent TEN minutes unsticking two stamps that had become stuck to eachother in my wallet. Carefully, with a little water and a small blade.
