Thankyou for coming to Imagine this year - I hope you enjoyed your English classes and the many laughs we had together. I always love coming to Imagine and meeting so many different people and sharing our stories.
Imagine is now closed for the winter holidays and will open again on January 5th 2015.
This morning is Christmas Day. Years ago in England I would be with my family, opening presents in the living room in my pajamas...then helping to cook a big turkey and vegetables lunch, eating Christmas pudding and cake. Pulling crackers and wearing paper hats. Watching (or sleeping thru) the Queen's 3 pm annual speech on TV. Watching old films. Eating. Drinking.
But today in Japan I actually have my last class of the year! NHK Culture Center in Odori has a class today....
Last night I made Christmas cakes for the students.
So this morning I have to clear snow, make my mother-in-law's lunch, get ready for work....an ordinary Thursday.
For an hour I sat in the living room: surrounded by presents from friends in England and Japan and tore open packaging to discover chocolates, magazines, wine, socks, bath salts, cat toys and other thoughtful presents.
It reminds me of Christmas mornings in my childhood.
I do it alone. My partner is a ski teacher - and he is away working at Kiroro, but coming home tonight. There are no presents from friends or students FOR him...so I open my presents alone. He and I usually don't exchange presents - maybe a can of beer or a box of chocolates - I think anytime is a good time for presents between a couple!!!
Later today I will join a group of foreign friends for a late lunch - we will cook chicken and vegetables, eat cake and chocolate - Australians, a German, some British people - all of us maybe trying to capture a little of Christmas feeling together in Japan.
Happy Holidays to all Imagine students!
