That's how I felt today riding on the Nanboku Subway line.
Two highschool boys were sitting and standing in front of me. On the other side of one boy was a mentally handicapped schoolgirl.
She moved a little strangely, looking at each station and checking where she should get off.
The boys laughed at her and talked about her...looking at her.
Finally - at Horohirabashi I exploded.
In Japanese I told them off: "This is close to bullying! You should be treating her kindly. Why are you laughing and talking about her. There are many handicapped people in Japan! YOU are the future of Japan and this is bad behaviour! How old are you? 15 ? 16? You should be more grown up!".
They looked shocked and embarrassed. Everyone in the train carriage looked at us....
I was so angry. There are many handicapped people in society, if you are going to make fun of all of them you'll be busy and it is so, so rude.
I guess THOSE boys will hate English and foreigners now!
How about you? Have you ever told a stranger off in public? I think in Japan it is unusual. I became a fighting Obasan...
