Last week I joined a tourism monitor trip to Kuromatsunai, near Oshamambe. This was organised by a Hokkaido tour company called Hokkaido Treasure Island.
This company takes foreigners AND Japanese on local Hokkaido drive tours - half day or more, with guides. When they plan a new programe they have to test it, and of course take photographs and video. So they do test - tours and use people like me.
Four foreigners went to Kuromatsunai, and we went around with local guides, a photographer and a video camera man.Posed for pix, met local people, answered questions about tour details - gave our suggestions for how to make the tour better.
For me the tour highlights were:
nature walk in the beech forest, BBQ in a garage with local people, potato picking, a visit to a tiny Japanese sweets shop and an amazing lunch at a Michelin Hokkaido restaurant...with vegetables from the family garden.
here are some photographs of the tour.
