This year in Sapporo it was great weather last weekend and families had a good day for the annual event.
In England schools have Sports Day, of course, but it isn't such a major event. Mostly people go to watch their own kids, and then go home. There isn't the whole arrive-at-dawn-get-a-spot-and-eat-a-big-prepared-lunch picnic routine.
In England there are the usual running and jumping races, and then fun events such as Sack Race (picture), Egg and Spoon Race or the Three-Legged Race. And of course - Tug-o-War.
A big difference with Japan is that there are not marching and flag waving events in England, and I've never seen students making a human pyramid either!
In Japan schools have Shopping List Game, Beanbag Netball, the Card Relay...and...tell me anymore!
