Today and tomorrow I am organizing two showings of the documentary film HAFU at L Plaza, near Sapporo Station.
About 3 years ago I saw on Facebook that friends of a friend were planning to make a movie about people who are mixed-race in Japan.
I thought it was an interesting idea and I donated Y10,000 to the filming project.
Then I waited for a theater in Sapporo to show the film. I went and talked to Theater Kino about the film. Gave them the information. Waited.
Then I heard that anyone can organize a Community Screening of the movie. Tokai University and Hokkaido International School held screenings. But I worried that only the foreign/HAFU community in Sapporo knew about these showings.I wanted more people to see it.
So, one day I went into L Plaza and reserved a large room and a projector. For two days in April.
I sent an e mail to the film distribution company in Tokyo.
Today and tomorrow...L Plaza at 3 pm.
I am a little busy!
I've never organised a film screening. Thanks to many supportive people in Sapporo and Tokyo I hope it will be a success.
* Tickets for both days have sold out.
If you come without a ticket we'll ask you to sit at the back of the room - the view/sound may not be good.
We are planning another screening in October.
