While friends in Tokyo are enjoying cherry blossom parties, this is the simple joy of a Hokkaido spring. And the fukinoto growing by the roadside!
Most of Sapporo now is full of melting snow, dirty streets and the tiny little stones (called gravel) which are left behind after the snow has gone.
A friend broke his collar bone recently, when his bike slipped on gravel on the Hokkudai campus. It reminded me of a similar accident I had a few years ago. Luckily, nothing broken - but a painful bruise on my chest which made breathing, sneezing and laughing hard. Usually I don't bike in this season. I walk and drive...and take public transport.
Lots of melting snow...look what I saw by the Toyohira River this weekend. Beautiful Hokkaido? Not yet.
