I travel to east Hokkaido for 3 days...and come Friday afternoon I will be in Kawayu making a speech - IN JAPANESE - to local people who work in the tourist business.
45 minutes of speech....and then questions and answers.
And then a large beer.
I've been invited to speak about my volunteer work as a Destination Expert for Hokkaido on the worldwide popular website Trip Advisor.
I've been doing this since 2004, several times a week I check the website and see what questions travelers are asking about coming to Hokkaido on holiday.
Over the years the kind of travelers, and their questions have changed: now many families from Asian countries are coming here on self-drive holidays, or touring by public transport.
The theme of the speech is: What are the information gaps for foreign visitors when they are planning trips here
So. Friday. A speech. In Japanese.
Everyone should have a language challenge to make them improve themselves.
This is mine.
But the reward will be seeing beautiful east Hokkaido in winter - a first for me to see Akan, and Kawayu and the Kushiro cranes.
All of that will be fun.
