Loved it. Very old fashioned and simple. The music was lovely and the dancing good. I can see why Emma Stone won Best Actress, she really dominates every scene in the film.
Last week a student asked me: What British films do you recommend?
I couldn't think of a quick answer...
Later I thought this is hard, because there are so many kinds of British film and each show a different view of the country.
Japanese people usually think of Harry Potter, or James Bond...or any film with Hugh Grant in it - these are "British".
But I also thought about the many historical films, and the films located in beautiful parts of the UK; as well as many films that look at social class, racism and news topics such as strikes/unions etc
Here are a few recommendations:
Chariots of Fire
Pride and Prejudice
Remains of the Day
Agatha Christie stories...
Working class/social issues
The Full Monty
Secrets and Lies
Life of Brian
A Fish Called Wanda
